Lake Powell June 2011 (Trip #1)

Tyler and I surfing together. We took our first Lake Powell trip in June and had a blast with my mom and her sister (Aunt Sherrie) Cousins: Megan, Greg and their kids, Abbey and Sam and Cousin Heidi and her little guy, Logan! Also, my sisters: Adrienne, Laura and Clark and Katie. Thanks for the fun trip everyone!

I'm back there somewhere!

Max was a great "flag boy". He is content to just watch everyone have fun in the water! He prefers that.

Wasatch Back Ragnar Relay

In June I ran the Ragnar Relay with my good friend Karlee Fryer and some of her family and their friends! It was SO FUN! Here we are at the starting line up at Utah State at 4 AM!!! This was our 6 member group for Van 1. Van 2 consisted of 6 more family members of Karlee. A team total of 12 that ran from Logan to Park City! I don't remember our finishing time but I think our team averaged a 9 min mile. I did not contribute to that speed however; I am what you would call a "slow runner"!

Here is the entire group of 12 at the finish line! We did it!!! I was proud of myself for finishing the race considering my "training" started just 2 months prior. I did not inherit my dad's "runner legs"! I'm excited to run next year's race with my family! Woot Woot!

Girls Camp

The month of June brought Girls Camp, Ragnar and Lake Powell! It was a busy month! Here is our Young Women's group and leaders. We were the VIKINGS and our theme was "I can do hard things". The girls definitely got a taste of "hard things" since it POURED rain the majority of the week. We had tents flooding and wet girls! Luckily there was a nice cabin across the river that we were able to stay in overnight.

In May I went to Boise, ID to see WICKED with Tyler's Family! This was my second time seeing it and it was just as good, if not better, than the first! We had a really fun "girl's weekend".

Here is the whole group after the show was over. Our seats were separated from each other and Tyler's aunt and sister in law were approached during intermission and offered 3rd row seats for the second half of the show! Lucky huh!? We were almost as happy up in the nose bleed section with our binochulars! :)

On the way home we stopped in Twin Falls to see the Shoshone Falls. Very cool!

Coach "Dad" pointing the way! Max has a tendency to stick his tongue out when he plays soccer or anything for that matter. He gets it from his dad. One of the parents commented after a game saying, "It's so cute when he sticks his tongue out!" Max overheard the comment and said, "That's how I focus!"
Max LOVED his first year of soccer, especially since his dad was the coach and Aunt Kim was assistant coach with cousin Chance on his team! Max is signed up to play Fall soccer with dad as his coach again!

Katie had just gotten out of the shower and wasn't too thrilled that I was taking her picture but tough beans! At least grandpa is happy to be there! I have this same picture of him last year with Laura next to him smiling the same way! Love it!

This year was a WET Halloween! We had a neighborhood BBQ around 4pm with no rain and as soon as the kids were ready to go trick or treating, down came the rain. I've never heard of a little rain stopping any child from scoring some free candy, so on we went!

Jack always fell asleep on the speed boat. Those were some of his best naps on the trip.

FINALLY!!! A new blog post! I'm going to be playing catch up for awhile so expect a lot of pictures from summer to fall. So here goes... (above) Jack chillin' on the house boat having a snack.

We went to Lake Powell the end of September with Tyler's family. The kids had a lot of fun playing in the sand and jumping in the water. Jack is driving the house boat and saying, "That looks like a nice, sandy spot to anchor the boat dad!"

My cute friend in my ward, Andrea Krogh, had the cutest birthday party for her daughter. It was a "cooking" party and she made these adorable apron's and chef hats. She made the apron out of a dish towel and the hat out of card stock and tissue paper! Fun right!? As you can see by the look on Max's face, it was a fun and creative party.

Blast from the Past!

My ALL time favorite teacher works at the same elementary school as my mother. (small world eh?) I've been so excited to go see her, so last month I drove down to Syracuse and had a "blast from the past" with Miss Becky Potter (now Mrs. Beckstead). I even brought the picture of us together on the last day of 3rd grade. So here we are holding the picture of us about 20 years ago; complete with the "I love books" blocks behind us. The blocks were in her room in 1990 and she still has them! She hasn't changed at all and it was so fun to see her again! My favorite memories of elementary school were in her class and she even made sure that I went to the Valentine's Tea with my 3rd grade crush, Jackson Couch! She was the best.

My dear sweet boys are VERY attached to their mother! (I know it's shocking to some) It seems to be getting worse lately; I leave the room to put in a load of laundry, load the dishwasher, take a shower, or use the restroom and within minutes or even seconds there they are right by my side. It starts with them yelling my name and then when I don't answer, they come looking. Even Jack is yelling, "mama!" Max is notorious at yelling my name while Jack is napping instead of getting his little lazy bottom up and looking for me. (good thing he has a cute little bottom) I have resorted to telling him where I'm going so that he knows not to yell for me and to come and get me instead. It is really quite ridiculous. I'm trying to enjoy everyday with my kids because they are at a really fun age, but let's be honest; it would be nice to use the restroom in PEACE once in awhile! I was in my bathroom today and of course my two little ones were in there with me and I told Max that I was the flame and he was the moth. He looked at me weird and asked what that meant, I told him it means he follows me everywhere. He looked at me with his "blank stare" and walked out of the bathroom. Apparently it had little effect on him. Jack's favorite pastime is to open the shower door while I'm in there and bring me toys or books. I usually resort to leaving the door open to avoid his fingers getting smashed. He's not quite strong enough to push it open all the way without it swinging back and smashing his hand, although he doesn't complain when that happens. Sometimes I wonder if that kid feels any pain.
And the fighting... oh the fighting. I never would have guessed that a four year old and an almost 18 month old would fight so much. "What is the problem!?!?" has turned into my staple phrase lately. Oh the joys of motherhood! What will I do when number 3 comes along? (good thing it's not any time soon) I don't know how other people do it. I just have to thank my Heavenly Father for blessing me with two sweet boys and I really wouldn't have it any other way. They are my life and they make me so happy. I just have to start writing it down while I remember it, because some day I'll want them to follow me around and tell me cute things like, "mommy, you're adorable." -Max

Here is a little taste of our Easter weekend! Max visited the Easter Bunny at the grocery store, painted Easter eggs with his brother, went on a scavenger hunt to find his Easter basket, and had an Easter egg hunt with his cousins. I never took pictures of the boys in their new Easter clothes so this collage will have to do.

On Saturday (probably the coldest day of the year so far) I went out with Tyler's family and helped take some wedding pictures of Kurtis (Ty's brother) and his fiance, Griselda. I borrowed Laura's umbrella... thanks! I think they turned out pretty well considering my poor quality digital camera.

You can tell by their faces what the temperature may have been! By this point it was windy, so it felt about 20 degrees.

These next two were taken at the new Hotel Marriot. The hallway with lights was actually in the Riverwoods Conference Center.

This staircase had this really cool 'damask' wallpaper. (I hope that's what it's called) I would love to wallpaper a room in my house with the same stuff!

Spaghetti Please

After lunch the other day I let Max bring up the tupperware of left over spaghetti noodles. He loves to eat them cold. Jack decided he'd like to try them too!

He ended up tipping the bowl over onto the carpet and had fun playing in the noodles. Max joined in too. Good thing they were cold or I would have had noodles stuck in the carpet.

Halloween

We celebrated Halloween this year with Batman and little fireman Jack. We had a fun filled day with a neighborhood barbeque, visiting grandparents and trick-or-treating around the neighborhood. Max and his cousin Chance were fighting crime together in matching costumes. We took pictures with lots of cousins so I won't name them all. The best costume was probably Max's cousin Emma, dressed as Tina Turner. So cute!

A visit from Melissa and Merrick

After our trip to California, Melissa and Merrick decided to fly to Utah the next weekend for a quick visit while her husband was in Italy.
It was fun to be able to see them two weekends in a row!

Max loves to hold Jack, so naturally he wanted to hold Merrick too; I don't think he realized that Merrick is bigger than him so he opted to let Merrick sit next to him instead! Wise choice.

For a weekend in October Jack and I flew to California with Adrienne and Laura (two of my sisters) to visit my other sister Melissa and her little boy Merrick. The boys are just 3 months apart so it was fun watching the two babies interact and play 'tug of war' with the toys.

Finally at the age of 9 months we decided to give Jack his first haircut. What can I say other than he looked like a girl; so it was definitely needed! We put him in his purple bumbo and gave him a piece of licorice to keep him entertained. He ended up with hair all over the licorice but kept trying to put it in his mouth. He did great and the ending result made him look like a little man. Tyler was on a roll and cut his hair along with Max's. I was cleaning up dark brown, red and blonde hair out of the sink while Tyler hosed Max down in the shower. Needless to say Max cried while he got his hair cut and Jack just stared!

Our friends/neighbors invited us to go boating at Glendale Lake on Saturday. The kids played on the "rocky beach" and we all enjoyed wakeboarding and tubing. I was so proud of Max for getting on the tube with Tyler and being so brave when the boat picked up speed. I thought my camera was back on the beach so I didn't get a picture of the tube ride, but it turns out my camera was in my bag the whole time! So frustrating. We had a fun day and Jack even enjoyed the boat ride.

I made some birthday cupcakes for my cute neighbor Paige. Max is always looking for an excuse to make cupcakes so he can frost and lick his own cupcake as much as he wants. I babysat my neice and nephew that night so they frosted one too. I love the Neon Food Coloring. It's so bright and fun.
